The most reliable way to reach Kigoma is by private or shared charter flights.  The Shared Charter route offers flights to Kigoma every Monday and Thursday with flights operating the following route: Arusha - Katavi - Mahale - Kigoma - Arusha. Passengers can request a pick up and/or drop off to Serengeti, Tarangire and Kilimanjaro.

Commercial airlines like Air Tanzania and Precision Air fly to Kigoma every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday from Dar es Salaam.

Alternatively, for the more adventurous guests, you can drive in to town by road, travel by rail across Tanzania, or by water with the M.V. Liemba.

Gombe Stream National Park is only accessible by boat from Kigoma. A boat transfer takes approximately 70 to 90 minutes depending on weather conditions. Kigoma Hilltop Hotel arranges boat transfers with dhow boats; this allows you to take in the surroundings with a gentle cruise along the lakeshore. The boat journey passes by picturesque fishing villages and spectacular scenery.
